From a message God gave our pastor Bro. Bell.....

Foothold vs. Stronghold

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)" 2 Conrinthians 10:3-4

Foothold- the initial thought of sin. Comes from the outside.

Stronghold- giving place to the devil, and allowing him to set up camp inside your mind. When you yield to the thought of sin it then becomes a stronghold.

Example of a foothold and stronghold:

Foothold- the devil putting the thought in your mind of stealing something.
Stronghold- letting that thought take root and acting upon it.

Foothold- the devil putting the thought in your mind that someone doesn't like you or did you wrong.
Stronghold- allowing those thoughts to grow and getting angry, bitter, and acting upon it (whether in being ugly to the person, holding a grudge, or gossiping)

How do you tear a Stronghold down? Ask God to forgive you and repent.

An un-repented stronghold will brew and grow until it is dealt with.

The devil cannot take up residence in your life unless you allow him to be there.

The devil works by placing seeds of doubt in your mind that will grow into a stronghold if you allow it.

A stronghold is like a castle. If you gain all the land around the castle, you still don't have the castle. You have to conquer the castle. In order to get a stronghold out of your life you must deal with the issue.

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" 2 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down- to take it down

Imaginations- any thought that lifts itself above Christ

We need to take down anything in our life that lifts itself above Christ.

When something goes wrong in our life and we think "What are we going to do?" The devil will use that to create a foothold and put doubt in your mind. When this happens, we have two options....

#1 - Shoot it down with scripture

#2 - Allow him to create a stronghold in our life by listening to him and thinking on it.

When the Devil tries to talk to us:

-Examine the situation according to the word of God.

-Use God's word to combat the devil's attacks.

The devil will ease in to having a stronghold. It will start out as a small foothold, but before you know it he will be calling the shots if you let him.

A foothold is when your mind starts thinking contrary to the word of God. Any mindset that is impregnated with hopelessness.

A few ways to identify when it is the devil telling you something:

-The devil attacks with fear.

(The Lord will never bombard one of his children with fear. He comes to them in love and conviction, to restore you, not to harm you)

-The devil will attack with a sense of hopelessness.

(With God ALL things are possible, He will never try to convince you that the situation is hopeless!)

Recognize footholds and do not allow them to become strongholds in your life!
